Supplemental Mortgage Pool Statement?

I have already fired the investment manager that put me into this. I think he looked for things that made for confusing tax returns. Of course I fired him for underperforming the indices; not for this.

I have $87,645.15 of "Fedl Home Ln Mtg Crp". I just got a tax statement saying I got $6,914.46 in Principal Paid, 652.29 in Gross Interest, and $40.94 in Interest Expense. Where does this go on my tax return? Does it duplicate anything on the 1099-INT?

Gross Interest, and $40.94 in Interest Expense.

None of it goes on your tax return. The income on the 1099-INT goes on your tax return. I will assume that you did not receive a 1099-OID. That tells me that you did not buy a collateralized debt instrument issued at a discount to par. As such, none of your principal payments would be partially taxable. Freddie Mac (FHLMC) sells a variety of different collaterized debt instruments. Most of them work the same way.

Effectively, what you have is a self-liquidating debt instrument. Unlike a bond that makes no principal payments until its maturity, you have a debt instrumet that is providing you a pro rata share of the interest and principal paid by the homeowners with the mortgages that secure the debt. You need to keep track of the principal paid to you in order to arrive at an adjusted basis for your investment. If you were to sell your investment in the secondary market, any gain/loss would be calculated on the proceeds less your adjusted basis (what you paid less principal already returned).

If I hold it to maturity, or expiration, or whatever it is called, will I need all of these?

all of these?

I don't think so because using the CUSIP you can obtain the data from Freddie Mac online or Bloomberg.
