Tax refund... Shouldn't I have it by now?

Aug 15, 2011 2 Replies

In April my accountant filed an amended 2007 return to carry back 2008 foreign tax credit.(it looked like I would never have a chance to carry it forward) I did exactly the same thing for my son. His refund check arrived in May. Mine (maybe 10x bigger than his) has yet to come. My accountant tells me that things are taking a long time this year and I shouldn't worry about it.

Any advice?

Amended returns do seem to be taking a long time this year. I filed an amended 2007 return on April 7 and I just got the refund today, August 15. The refund was $38.

You can call the IRS at 800-829-1040 and ask about the status of your amended return.

You should at least have received a letter by now acknowledging receipt.

I have a similar situation: An NOL CB to 2005 (2007 generating year) received by IRS April 3, 2011 (with 15 days left on the ASED per holiday/weekend rule), and I just got a letter from Appeals scheduling a DECEMBER appointment. [The return processing unit said it was late. They don't seem to understand NOL SOLs.]

For Appeals to be scheduling 4 months in advance is an indication of their current backlog.
