car insurance

Hi, I am an ex pat Brit for the last fifteen years living in New zealand. My wife and daughter are in UK, where my daughter will stay for one year to work as a nanny. She is 17 years old and whilst she has a license to drive in NZ, has to go through the procedure of getting a full in UK now. She has just applied for her provisional license.

It seems a lot has changed in relation to UK insurances and my wife has had a hell of a job getting insurance quotes. Basically we have bought a Renault Cleo, 2002 valued at 5000 pounds. We want fully comprehensive cover on the car and for it to include my wife when she is there (she will be there for maybe 4 months of each year) Charlotte as a provisional license holder but I am confident she will pass her test as soon as we get her booked in, and myself for one month mid year.

Can anyone recommend a company or brokerage who will be able to quote us or give us something that is reasonable. I am in the insurance industry in New Zealand and am surprised at how hard it is to get cover in UK these days. Maybe i am out of touch but we want to know what it will cost us to add Charlotte once she gets her license. No one will even quote until we have the license so it is therefore very difficult to select a company to insure the car through. If we choose one for the cover for my wife in the first instance we want the one we will add my daughter to but we can not find out the cost until we have the license in our hands.

One of the problems with the online options for quotes is that if you do not 'fit' it doesnt work.

Any advice would be appreciated

Tony
