extra work

Hi there,

I've got a permanent job and I would like to make some extra work as a freelancer. What do I need to do to get the most out of it?

- Do I need to found a company in order to make an extra work legally?

If yes, what's the cost of running a company as self-employed (while having perm position) If no, what are the options to make an extra work legally (to prove an extra income, being able to write invoices, signing valid contracts )

- How much do I pay to Inland Revenue if my rate is e.g. £30/hour while I also have a basic income of 23k per year?

Could you also please send me some links to resources about freelancing and legal stuff?

Thank you in advance for any help, Richard

No, complete CWF1 and send it off within three months of becoming self employed.

Doing extra work isn't illegal.

Just as a side issue, that may be very important - make sure your current employer allows you to freelance if in related field. Some contracts will stipulate not so and could put you out of a job.

They never need to know, surely?

Unless you do the freelance during work hours and get caught - plus in a lot of cases, any work you do during work time, on work premises automatically becomes property of the company.

Just get on with it, watch your back and you'll be fine.

In many jobs (mine for example) anything I invent becomes the property of my employer regardless of where ot when I invent it.

BTW, I don't support the advice

"> Just get on with it, watch your back and you'll be fine.".

I think you need to read your contract and see what you have agreed. If you have agfreed not to work for anyone else then you shouldn't.
