Going travelling for a month do I need to Pay NI contributions

A Simple one I hope

I am going on Holiday from 4th to 29th April.

My current contract which is PAYE ends 1st April and I plan to either startup on my own when I return or look for work when I return.

Do I need to pay NI contributions when I am away. Job Centre said Dont Know. DWP said yes maybe we will get back to you and havent and post office clerk just looked blank.

Any advise greatly apprecated.

It's based on your annual amount - so if you missed a month, it wouldn't matter as long as you made the amount up in the rest of the year. If you missed a whole year (like if you started work, and then stopped to become a student, say) they would then having a gap in your record, but missing a month is neither here or there. By the way, if you've never paid NI (if you're young and went from school to university) then there is no gap - they just count from the date you start paying NI when you eventually get a job or sign on the dole.

Thats what me dad said. People go on holidays all the time and I guess a few also go on holiday at the end of a contract

Forgive me for getting all politcial but what a f**king sham this country is when if one considers a holiday one has to start thinking about NI contributions. What a waste of everyones time.
