Govt. join up datbases

If what this week's announcement (re. Govt databases), means anything then we should look forward to a time when it's all joined up. I think this is goodness. The rigour that it will produce will save lots of us tax by smashing the avoiders.

********** Example 1: "Renewing your passport?", "Sorry, No passport renewal allowed. Your Tax/NI payments are in error". "Stay home until you've paid your taxes". Don't complain .... when you pay you get the service, that's how it's paid for. ********** Example 2: "Re-taxing your car?", Sorry, No insurance or MoT on our database. No re-tax allowed. ***********

The first example is presently fiction.

The second example is very close to being done thanks to a very good integration of DVLA and Insurance data.

Who in there right minds would want a tosser to re-tax an uninsured car?

Similarly, why should honest and paid-up tax payers provide passports to those who free-load on the rest of us. The implication being that if they get in trouble (probably their own fault), the services of Embassies/High Commissioners & Consulates should be deployed to rescue these free-loaders.

There are lots of other areas that the new joined-up system will go after, AMEN

Roll-on the integration. Paying what you owe is an absolute duty to the citizen or more accurately, us subjects.

There's a lot more linkages that will benefit honest folks and stuff criminals.

Err, are you one bit sort of a byte.?

You CAN'T re-tax a car already if no MOT/Insurance, you need to provide them at the Post Office.

And on the other side of the coin, why would a Mot/insurance dodger want to tax their car for - skip 2 you ain't going to bother with third!

Only honest citizens trying to play by the rules get hurt by the bureaucracy this will entail - look at how hard they made buying a replacement number plate - criminals will simply unscrew them from a similar vehicle if they need new ones.

The police certainly didn't give a toss when a car full of teenagers in an untaxed, uninsured, unregistered vehicle ran into the back of me - too much like hard work finding people who pose a greater risk than someone who bothers their arse with insurance, MOTs, driving licences.

Criminals live outside the system - think along the lines of your local drug dealer - his money won't go direct into a bank - he'll use a friendly money launderer (hairdressers / tanning salons are typical) to legitimise the "income" before it appears in the system - and anything else will be paid cash.

Actually it isn't. Passports are paid for by the recently inflated fees, justified by the need for the new biometric standards. However, even though you pay the higher price, there is no guarantee you get the new style passport as the PO has large backlog of old style passports.

Surely a better example would be going to the doctor/hospital and the receptionist checks your tax payments are up to date before offering treatment..?
