Share prices and market opening times.

Looking at the share prices today, I noticed on a financial website that some shares were up/down before the market had even opened at 8.00am. For example, share X was up 7%, share Y down 3%, etc.

How is this possible considering the markets were not open? If someone placed a buy/see at say 7.00am at what price would they buy or sell? At the price when the market opens at 8.00 or what the price was when they actually bought or sold?

Thanks.
