Tax/NI refund

I've been working in UK since July 2002, and I've been paying both Tax and NI contributions. My contract expires in July 2005. What are the advantages of paying the taxes in UK? Are the Tax/NI paid reclaimable?

Thanks in advance Octavian

You will not get a refund of either the taxes or the NI contributions. By now you will have achieved resident status for tax purposes and, assuming assuming you are performing your work here, you are liable to UK taxes and social security contributions.

These bring with them the ability to call upon our social security and health care systems if need arises along with all the benefits of education, defence etc which the government provides.

As you are making use of some, if not all, of these services, why should you not make a contribution?
