Confused about this very simple 1040X situation (what to include)

Ok, I just received a revised 1099-DIV form for year 2011. Box 1 now has a smaller amount. So, if I file an amended 2011 return I will get some more money back.

I did the process with Turbo Tax. But, when I went to print, it wants to print not only my 1040X form, but my entire 2011 form (about 30 pages). Do I really need to attach my entire 2011 tax return to form 1040X? I looked at the instructions and it appears to indicate this is not necessary. But I looked elsewhere on the WEB and it seems to indicate that I do have to attach the 1040X to my entire return.

Which is it?

You should send in the 1040X. If you filed a Schedule B with the original, attach the new schedule B. That's all. The revised

1040 is for your information only, not to be sent to the IRS.

(If you had any other schedules and forms which depend on AGI, since AGI changed those forms and schedules might hvae changed, so attach revised copies of them too, But do not attach he actual 1040 form.)

I guess I'll just send in for Feds: 1040X and Schedule B. My bottom line income is reduced by the difference in Box 1. So, I assume no other form has changed whatsoever. For the State (Michigan) I'll do a Mich. 1040 X and attach the Schedule B, Federal to it.

The State will owe me $14., so it's no big deal. The Fed is about $102., so I guess it's worth the small effort.

Am I missing anything?

If they want something more than what you send in, they'll ask for it.
