Anton,

If you are referring to accounting software when you say "an accounting program that will teach you accounting principles," you are referring to accounting software from A-Systems Corporation in Salt Lake City, Utah

Not only does each accounting program (and demo CD) include comprehensive multimedia training for the software, but each CD also contains an introductory course in the terminology and processes of accounting. (We call the course "Bean Counting 101". The principles are briefly explained in the course, but certainly not enough to qualify as an "education" in accounting.

If what you want/need is the training necessary to truly understand accounting in all its nuances and sophistication, you will have to do like the rest of us and invest four to six years at an institution of higher education.

You did not say why you needed to learn accounting, but looking at your one-page website, it looks like you are anticipating writing your own accounting program. Not to discourage you, but there are hundreds, perhaps thousands of "accounting" programs out there that were written by individuals with the same accounting background you have. Sorry.

If on the other hand, you need to learn accounting to be able to run some accounting software you have purchased, you might consider buying another accounting software. If your program requires you to be an accountant to run it, the software is simply not doing its job. As suggested in the first paragraph, you might want to check out the accounting program from A-Systems. It was written to quickly learned and easily run by novice accountants. With 27 years in the business, our software has the kind of depth that impresses even the pickiest of professionals.

On the other hand, one of our users recently called to complain that our accounting program was so easy to use that a child could do it. She was concerned because she felt her job was at risk if the boss found out how easily it could be done. Pause for a second and ask yourself when you last heard someone complain that a piece of software was "too easy to use!" You should not need a degree in accounting to run your accounting software. Also, you should not need the intervention of an accountant to set up your accounting software. If you do, your software is poorly written.

Good luck,
