CPA worth the effort

Hey what do you guys think about earning a CPA? I have an MBA\MS already but I would have to go back and take 5 classes in accounting plus actually study for the test. I'm almost 30 but I'm not sure if I want to spend the next two years studying for something that's going to only have a limited return. I make in the 70's right now...

Not unless you have your own client list.

it'll have a nice ring to the end of your name.

Golden Monkey, MBA, MS, CPA.

if you really wanna do it right, after the CPA, go for a DBA.

then you can teach and keep office hours at the university.

Professor Golden Monkey, MBA, MS, DBA, CPA.

if you play your cards right, you can get on that committee that promulgates FASB rulings.

Golden Monkey's revenge.

Make those accounting firm partners sweat.

Yes, obtaining your CPA is worth it. Whether or not you'll see any significant increase in salary depends on what you do with it.

If you're not in public accounting, I would say to you that your experience matters much more than being a licensed CPA.

DBA = Doctor of Business Administration = a business college's Ph.D.

Actually, if you can become a DBA, you may work long hours, be called in at the worst times, and be thought of as a geek - you will easily get into 6 figures depending upon the company you keep.

Experience is the key here - I do not work between January and May. How many CPA's can say that? Though the thought of doing an audit stimulates me.

DBA = database administrator nix Dr.B.A.
