Buy, Hold, and Rebalance

Rick Ferri (kind of like a broken record, but at least it's a great song) on Buy, Hold, and Rebalance:

Many financial pundits criticize a balanced approach. They say a buy, > hold and reliance strategy is simple-minded and a relic of the past. > Their solution is to be tactical, meaning aggressively move in and out > of the markets. As it turned out, more than half the experts fail to > time markets correctly and their portfolios have fallen short of the > simple strategy they mock so much.

Nothing new here, but always a pleasure to read, and a couple of nice illustrations.

David, thanks for posting this. I like the study that was linked. One of my favorite lines from it is, "[P]opular 'Mad Money' television host Jim Cramer had a 46.8 percent accuracy rating [when predicting market direction] based on 62 market predictions." Meaning Cramer could have flipped a coin and been correct more often.

I am reminded of the Hulbert study that found that the counsel from over 80% of financial newsletters resulted in a failure to beat the market.
