IRA distributions not required in 2009 (pending)

This idea of temporarily waiving RMDs to allow the accounts to recover seems to have just passed. The bill is HR 7327 and it just needs W's signature at this point.



This is only for 2009, so far nothing is passed for 2008 and time is running short to do that.

Thanks for pointing that one out. That'll be a nice boon to a lot of folks I know.

Forbes is suggesting that the Treasury dept "may still do something to reduce 2008 RMDs" and if one hasn't yet taken his 2008, to wait a few more days (if your brokerage can handle later requests in the event that 2008 doesn't get waived).
