Spousal contribution in IRA

Mar 18, 2005 2 Replies

I am planning to make a spousal contribution towards a Traditional IRA. I would like to know, for spousal contribution, does my wife (who is not working) needs to open an IRA account on her name or can I make the contribution, on her behalf, to an account on my name. I am not familiar with IRA stuff so your advice will help me ...

Thanks.

It may be your money, but it's your wife's acount. It has to be in her name.

Any reason you are not taking advantage of the Roth IRA instead of the Traditional IRA?
