Abillity to arrange Departments in the order you want

Norm, When a department or category is created it is given an ID #. This is different than the code # that you see in manager. If you wanted to change the ID number you would need to open the database in a Visual Studio enviroment. Hope this helps

I posed this same issue in the partner' newsgroup earlier this week and this is the response I received from MS:

Good morning Kinnard,

Thank you for posting your question about the sort order of departments on reports.

If you want to have these sort in an order other than alphabetical you would need to add the ID column from the Department table onto the report; and have that be the first column on the report. If the Codes are in the order wanted you could add Code instead of ID to the report.

This would require that the Department table be joined on the report as well.

With my customers I set up their departments with numbers in front of the description and the system sorts it perfectly.

Make sure you start them with zero so that the sort is performed correctly as this is a text field.

If you need more than 99 departments start from 001, 002 etc

Sorry my mistake, I was referring to standard reports the Z report is sorted by the underlying ID of the record.
