Is there a way for RMS to filter unwanted characters being read by our credit card swiper? I get 3 unwanted characters before the credit card number.

I don't think there is any way to control this with RMS, barring customization, but there is a good chance your mag reader is configurable. Check to see if there is software available to let you program your mag reader, that may get you what you need.
