line item void

Is it possible to track a line item void in RMS? This would be prior to tendering, if a cashier rings an item and deletes the item prior to tender.

Thanks

We really need this funtion if there isnt one yet. Your cashiers can rip you off all day long.

You can prevent a cashier from being able to delete line items. it is an option in each cashier's rights setup.

Marc's right, only give permission to a manager or someone else that you trust to authorize deleting line items. When they need to delete an item, they would have to call that person over to do it. Marc, I'm not sure, but would they still be able to just enter a zero in the quantity field, effectively still deleting that item? If you really feel that strongly that you can't trust your cashiers, you may want to consider hiring new ones. Or at the very least install cameras directed at the checkout to help deter theft by your cashiers. I may be one of the few, but I trust my cashiers to not rip me off, and if I didn't, I would hire ones I feel I could trust.

Craig,

We allow our cashiers to delete line items, so I am not sure about the -0- quantity thing.

Now off-topic, but something I just found. Try entering a gift card as a tender for it's full value. If you are set to allow multiple tenders on gift cards, now enter it again. OOH Bad, apparently RMS does not update the available balance until AFTER the sale tenders and will let you take the card for it's full value multiple times on a transaction. I took off over-tender to see if that fixes it. The next step is to not allow multiple gift cards on a transaction. It's a bad bug, but fortunately a rare occurrence (unless of course someone intentionally takes advantage of it).

Hi,

We had the same problem in our stores. We took off the permission to delete line for all users as this is huge security risk. We also block quantity column for cashiers, so they are not able to change quantity to zero. I wrote simple custom html site (under custom buttons) which allow you to add qty only. For example: if cashier scans item (qty = 1) he can always change it to more (qty = 50) but he cannot change it down (from 50 to 49 or from 1 to

0). If mistake happen they have to call manager and he can change qty down or to 0 (line void), but he cant delete line totally. At the end of the day you can run report for all sales where qty=0 and managers need to sign it and make sure they knew of all changes made.

Thanks, Arthur

Arthur,

Thanks for describing your procedure. It sounds like it's a winner for those business's needing to control line item deletions. Also, I agree with you about employee dishonesty. I have to remember I have a very small number of employees compared to many of you, so it is much easier for me to control employee theft. I just can't imagine my staff ripping me off like that, but many of you have a significant problem with that.
