Loss of Batches

I have a customer who reported that when he did his End of Day Z report that half of his data was missing i.e., his total no. of cheques showing were 1 at £247.06 when it should have been 3 at £247.06, £62.84 and £47.97 = £357.87 -- his Cash total and Credit Card totals were the wrong too!!

It appears that only half of the days data has been recorded.

My question is therefore -- Is the batch info only stored in a Temporary folder or area of Memory and is not saved until the Batch is Closed and if so is it possible that if they have had a power cut that the data would be lost if it happens halfway through the day and the only Data left in there is what was done afterwards?

Please help

Are you sure there was no Offline Batch - this would create 3 batches.

All batches - open and closed - are stored in the BATCH table. The status of the batch is all that changes after the Z report.

SELECT * FROM Batch

...to see what's going on... To pare it down, you might want to do something like:

SELECT * FROM Batch WHERE OpeningTime > '2/1/07'

Thanks for all of your help and some of your advice could well come in useful in the future.

However, on this occasion it would appear that despite our customer insisting all of the information had gone even though I had asked him to check all his batches, it appears that the following had happened:

I called to site as I needed to see the problem for myself and as I had previously had remote support working and could have looked at it that way I wanted to sort out that too!!! It turned out that he had, indeed, had 2 power cuts that day and on both occassions the Batches had been Blind Closed, when the system had shut down. I was able to close those batches using Update Batch Info and get his Z reads printed. He was pleased, if a little embarrassed!! Also, I was able to sort out his remote support connection which had gone due to Broadband Router defaulting to old settings, I suspect when power cut happened!!!

Thanks once again to all that replied, your contributions were appreciated.

I would always recommend a UPS solution on the RMS server. I have had great luck with the new Belkin models. I had problems with the way APC's software forced the shutdown of programs when the battery level got too low. Belkin's software seems to shut things down more elegantly. I now use the old APC for my router, other network gear, and peripherals and put the RMS box on the Belkin by itself. The APC will run all night (turning off things that aren't critical) and the Belkin runs for about 2 hours if I turn off the LCD when no customers are present.

Where I am, the power actually goes off for over 2 hours frequently... I have a little experience!
