Hi, does anyone know what's the cheaptest way to go with a shopping cart that also has a quality inventory and products integration with RMS? I would like to see if even having an online store will even be profitable as compared to our brick and mortar operations. Basically I want to hold off on the RMS integration option until my cart is up and running and hopefully making me some money too.
What carts to you recommend that I can purchase first and do you have pricing seperatily for the RMS integration piece?
I've just started my research and there are a couple out there that I've noticed. Maybe someone can tell me if I can use Kosmos Central, EVT, Nitrosell, LAN Solutions or ??? Ideally I'd like to own the software too and not be tied down in any way and have an awesome bug free product with great support.
Tom, we've got a very high quality solution that works great with X- cart. I'm assuming you're doing like a few other clients are doing and getting your cart online and working and waiting for the budget wind fall to come so you can afford the whole RMS integration piece.

X-cart has hundreds of features, supports up to 37+ payment gateways around the world and you own the license code so you can modify it if you'd like any customization to the cart code or design.

If you have any implementation experience with an online cart you can set everything up your self or you can have us do it for you based on the maintenance package you choose.
Other than hosting, you should be up and online within days for under a few hundred bucks.
Ryan, we believe X-cart is a much superior product than Zencart and oscommerce. Don't get me wrong, if you'd like to integrate our web service with Zencart we're more than willing to do the work for you, but you'll have to pay three to four times the cost for implementaion as compared to X-cart. All the advanced features you already get from X-cart for $195 you'll have to locate 3rd party mods for oscommerce and Zencart or customize it. Not to mention you have to rely on the open source community for support, where x-cart will support all of their feature sets and fix at no cost. Just look at the integrated payment gateway's that are offered by X-cart right out of the box for $195, there are 37.

I may be wrong, but from what I've learned Zencart and oscommerce support less than a dozen payment gateways after initial installation.

It's not very convenient to support a product that forces you to always look for a mod to integrate high saught after features. We're always looking at the best practices to support our existing and new clients. The RMS integration isn't an easy plug'n play mod and going with the cheapest FREE cart isn't always in the best interest of theclient.
We are however looking at some basic feature sets for our Web Service to connect to carts like Zencart and oscommerce in the future and features beyond that initial implementation offering would have to be custom.
I would suggest a Nitrosell Implmentation. They really handle alot of issues that you will have to code for, with these other solutions, and its really a transparent solution to the RMS customer.

1) Annual License Fee: $360 Since you don't own the software you still have to pay for Nitrosell to upgrade and maintain it.
2) Hosting Base Fee: $100 (does not include Bandwidth)
3) Hosting Bandwidth: $95/GB based on usage. You'll need at least 1GB to start minimum, so the Hosting Total Cost will be: $195/month minimum.
4) Training and Implementation: $750 (you may or may not need this depending on how much ecommerce experience you may already have)
Customization? Well that's a whole new story and since you don't own the software why would you want to spend a lot of money investing in files you don't own, just use a template like the site above; heartbeatcity.net.
I think you are all missing the point here or maybe I am. Tom I'm assuming you want the freedom to buy software and host where every you want and if you choose to go with an RMS integration then you'd have that ability down the road. Correct? What I would recommend is using X-cart and after you've installed it and played with it some you can have a professional company like Kosmos create a custom design. Kosmos obviously will also install thesoftware on their servers or other servers at an hourly cost, I had a site installed for FREE from them by just asking because I'm hosting with them too.
You really need to do your research; I took nine months before I pulled the trigger and decided on Kosmos because I wanted to have 100% control over my site and didn't want to make a huge investment mistake down the road. If I wanted to move it now, I could without any hassles, but the support and customer service is so top notch at Kosmos I know I wouldn't get the same royal treatment with a $10 plans elsewhere. Tom, you basically get what you pay for.
Another thing you should pay attention to is your web marketing and how your site is put together. I've talked to the Kosmos staff and they really know what they are doing in that realm. Just by looking at this site

from Nitrosell I can tellyou these from a quick view.
1) It's template based and very generic.
2) The store is on a sub domain. Why? Google gives ZERO page rank for sub domain interior pages, and why have an ecommerce site if your products will not get high rank within a search engine. Nitrosell should have mentioned this to the customer.
I'm no SEO specialist, but I've learned a thing or two by discussing my options with Kosmos. If you want to go cheap and use a generic template from X-cart then that's your option too and you can have you site up in no time. If you'd like to spend some money on a real professional looking site, just look at these x-cart custom designs.

I agree that you will need to decide on the best solution for your business. Some or most of my customers do not have IT shops or skills in house to support these solutions so a HOSTED solution was best for them, as more important was a totally integrated solution, not needing content management tools etc. This is where the cost of business has to be determined. My customer wanted a completely automated solution end-to-end, with 24/7 365 support, not worrying about hosting or server issues or upgrades.
Just look at the licensing for a Windows Server \ IIS hosting, upgraded webservice to your business to support this traffic, etc to get his done, and you'll understand that the cost is greater than a $200 solution no matter what you choose. (I understand that web servers can run on various OS's just making a point here, and don't know if you currently have enought capacity on your servers to handle this additional volume/load.)
Yes, the XCART and other tools are running many RMS Sites as well, and provide some of the same features and functions as Nitrosell. You would have to decide the best route based on your business needs. I would be more than glad you get a better
Some Nitrosell and Other things to consider..
1) XML/RSS Feeds are feeding directly into Google via Nitrosell for rankings. This includes 100% of all 6000+ products listed, are now available through the link..
2) We use many other advertisements to promote traffic, like ad words and analystics, to drive traffic as well. I great marketing plan here will give you all traffic you desire.

There are no license fees when you buy the software and YES you own it. The pricing was cheaper a year ago (of course) than when I bought it a few months back, so I'd contact Kosmos or Newest about it.

Like Chris stated above, integrating RMS with an online store does require some complicated pieces to work and isn't something a normal store owner without out any web experience should take on themselves. That's why we give you the option of purchasing the software and supporting the software applications in house by reading the developer guides and implementing it yourself etc. You could also, pay Kosmos to implement the solution on your servers too as long as proper access is provided and the server platform supports the software.
