2 limited users over internet via broadband

Dec 14, 2006 4 Replies

A couple of my sales staff are a hundred miles away and i would like to give them limited permissions to access the accounts file. For example I would want them to generate PO's and acknowledge receipt of goods. Can this be achieved reasonably easily using QB? I would prefer some kind of synching rather than having to set my accounts machine up as a server. I currently use QB Pro 2002 but would be prepared to upgrade.

Thanks

Jon

QB doesn't allow for much 'synching' -- there is a mult-user version, but it is based on everyone sharing the same data file. There are 3rd party utilities for synching.

As for giving folks limited access and permissions, well, I've never been too happy with the restriction types and availabilities. You have the basic options of Selected areas of QuickBooks or All areas of QuickBooks. The permissions are defined when you set up the user. The basic versions have little flexibility (for example, if my assistant has access to the checkbook, she has access to the paychecks). The Enterprise Edition of the software address this issue.

Thanks, can you recommend any synching utilities that will function over an Internet connection?

Regards.

Hi Jon!

You may want to check out QuickBooks Online Edition. Your staff that are hundreds of miles away will still be able to use log in.
