QB2000 & Payroll

I was looking to upgrade to the latest version of QB from 2000, but it seems that I have to have a subscription to use QB's payroll function... is that right? We have to buy the bits and pieces of the software now?

That is correct. What are you using for payroll today? Intuit has not supported payroll on QB 2000 for several years.

Just be thankfull that you have awaked from your coma. Let me brief you on what has been going on during your long sleep. Way back when I had hair on my head, I sure it was 1999 Intuit began its policy of requirning a payroll subscriptions.

I'm using QB2000 for payroll, and it reminds me that my tax table is out of date every time I do payroll with it... I just calculate it manually for my

15 employees.

OMG your business has grown to the point where you have 15 employees and you have been calculating the taxes manually for 7 plus years.

Yeah, that's what I said.

You can't be serious. If you are, get real and buy QB Pro 2008. The go to QuickBooks website and see the payroll option that fits your needs best.

I was going to say you need a drink, but I need it more after reading this post.

Hey, when I first bought this business, everything was done on paper. Yes, paper. I have dragged the company and the employees into the '90s and they kicked and screamed the whole way ;-)

Ted,

When I first started my career as an accountant there was a period of time when computers were so expensive that only the largest firms could justify their cost. Fortunately computer service bureaus came into existence and we were able to farm out the most laborious chores.

It is very difficult for someone with my background to understand why anyone would manually enter the tax information in QB payroll for 15 employees when a inexpensive update and payroll subscription are available.

You must be spending other people's money.

No, I'm just not cheap.

Translation: I'll never be rich because I spend it all.

you don't have a millionaire mindset. The time wasted on doing the taxes by hand could be better spent increasing business.

I have spent the last two days looking around OKC for QB2009, and none is available. Luckily, Amazon.com has it in stock and is wrapping it up for me right now, so I will probably be asking you boys for some help in the next few weeks....

Since there were some major changes since 2000 you might look for a local Pro Advisor to help you set up the payroll properly:
