Bill Pay using Quicken 2004

I know this has been discussed but I am looking for a update list of banks that I can use to pay bills directly from Quicken 2004 rather then using the bank's web site. So far, I have checked Wachovia which does not (although from previous posts they use to), Bank of Ameica charges 9.95, Commerce doesn't apper to and INGdirect wich doesn't.

Can anybody recommend a bank. I an looking for banks with a Metro NY presence or an online bank.

Thanks.

I'd suggest you look for banks/credit unions that show that they support "direct connect", then select those in your area and give them a call to finalize your selection.

Wachovia does support this feature. Call them about it.

I've been a Wachovia/First Union customer for quite a while and have been paying bills directly out of Quicken the entire time.

I emailed customer support at Wachovia and thier reply was that they do not support but I will them directly. Thanks for the reply.

I just talk with Wachovia. New customers are not eligible for this feature. New customer must use Wachovia software that does not currently support bill pay using the Quicken interface. They plan on adding this feature in 2006. Therefore while it works for you, it doesn't work for new customers.

Thanks for your feedback.

It's free if you have an Advantage account.

I think you mis-understood what they told you or the rep that you talked to did not understand your question. See the Wachovia Quicken support page at

where they state the following:

"Welcome to the Wachovia Bank Software Help support site. This site contains basic instructions and troubleshooting information for accessing Wachovia Online Services through Quicken® Windows, Quicken® Macintosh, Microsoft® Money, or QuickBooks®.

While we are happy to provide this support site as a starting point, because Wachovia Bank does not manufacture your financial management software, we are unable to provide comprehensive technical support. However, to ensure an ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Uncommon experience using your software to access Wachovia Online Services, or to help resolve any potential issues, this site also contains contact information for the software makers."

Note that while they do not provide "comprehensive technical support", they do allow you to use Quicken to access their online services and pay your bills through Quicken. There is nothing here that says this service is not availablr to new customers.

What they said was that if you are an existing customer, you can use the bill pay feature of Quicken. For new accounts, that feature is not available. This came from talking with the Quicken support at Wachovia and also from an email from technical support. I am aware that many people here use Wachovia. That is why I followed up on the suggestion that I look at Wachovia. Unfortunately, they changed the availability. The web site is supporting current customer not future customers. These feature change all the time that is way I posted the original question after searching through past post.

According to the two reps that I spoke to last night, they do have the billpay feature for new accounts via the Quicken software. However, they do not support it on a technical basis.

When I asked for clairification I was given the same answer twice, which is:

They do have connetivity via quicken to download your transactions. You can make payments (I used a phone payment for an example with them) from quicken and it will be paid via Quicken's Billpay service. If the bill doesn't arrive or there is a techincal issue with the payments, the help call to wachovia would be transfered (and should initially be placed) to Intuit's billpay tech staff.

Exactly my point in my previous post. Quicken's Billpay service is available to new Wachovia customers. Thanks for clarifying the issue.

I thought the op wanted to use the bank's bill pay service (not Quicken Billpay) via Quicken. No?

Why on earth would one use (and pay for) QBP if one's bank offers the same service for free?

Reply to
Mike B

No. He wants to use Quicken Billpay.

I think there is still some confusion. I'm talking about use Quicken to access the bank's bill pay service which is free at Wachovia. I am not talking about using QBP for anything or with any bank.

Ultimately it will be up to the op; but I am very curious why you interpret the op's following remarks to refer to "Quicken Billpay".

"I know this has been discussed but I am looking for a update list of banks that I can use to pay bills directly from Quicken 2004 rather then using the bank's web site. So far, I have checked Wachovia which"

You do not have to use "Quicken Billpay" to pay bills via Quicken.

I just read your other reply to Mike B: it seems apparent to me that you are suggesting that one can only use "Quicken Billpay" to pay bills via Quicken. That is not true, and the op's original question suggests that it was the bank's billpay that was the desired route.

There is "Quicken Billpay"; and there is the fi's "Billpay". They are different.

Right. What I meant use Quicken to pay the bills. Quicken "sends" the instruction to the bank which handles the execution. I do not use "Quicken Billpay" to do any of this.

I can also login to Wachovia and use their Bill Pay but I have never done that.

Ah.

What I wanted was to pay my bills from within Quicken. I thought I could do that without signing up for Quicken Billpay Service. The banks I found so far require a monthly fee.
