exchanging files - Quickbooks vs Quicken

Is there a common way to exchange the data files created in Quickbooks - and maybe/hopefully opened in Quicken ?

ie - another person has Quickbooks with the data, and I have Quicken - Is there anything I can do with the data file, or do I have to also install Quickbooks to open it ?

If you want to view a Quickbooks file, you'll have to install Quickbooks. I believe you can convert a Quicken file to Quickbooks, but you can't go from Quickbooks to Quicken.

Also, if you have to modify the file and then send it back, make sure you use the same version (year number) as the other person uses. If you install an older version of QB, you won't be able to open the file & if you install a newer version, the newer version will convert it to the newer version & the other person will no longer be able to open it.

If you just need to see the information & don't need to modify the file, you might consider reporting, then extracting the reports to spreadsheet(s).
