Old problem. Quicken thinks you own fewer shares that you think you sold fewer. Probably because when entering purchases you entered price per share and total purchase price. In Quicken you NEVER enter price per share. You HAVE TO LET Quicken calculate that. Try entering 1 share fewer in your sell transaction.
Or use the "Sell all shares in this account" option, just below the security name in the Sell-Shares Sold dialog.
John I tried that and it keeps asking for the number of shares and won't let me put in a number or leave it blank
Have you recently sold any shares in the same fund ?
I recently had a situation with selling 200 shares of a stock on Schwab, but only about 50 were actually sold and the rest were "pending". I tried to enter another sell order, not realizing the remaining shares were "pending", and therefore not really avail for selling.
You'd get that if you were trying to sell shares of a security in an account where you do not own any shares of that security.
Be sure you are using the correct security name, and that you are entering the transaction in the correct account.
Thanks John the original sale was recorded with the wrong security I changed it and now I could sell the shares.
