I've gotta start over

I've been using Quicken for over 10 years now, and my file is all bloated with millions of transactions and old accounts. Quicken is very slow, and I'm often dealing with errors.

So I'm considering starting over with a new file. But I don't want to lose my saved reports for example.

Has anyone gone through this? Any recommendations?

Thanks,

Save the file you have as say "QDATA_OLD". That will contain the last

10 years of data. Go to File/File Operatios/Year End Copy. Quicken will divide your file into two different files starting with the date you specify.

I would keep two or three years in the "new" file so you can do long term performance.

Thanks Frank. I just did that, but it didn't work as expected. I set the cutoff date to 1/1/01. My checking accounts now only go back that far, but the investment accounts still go back to 1990.

What's the point of archiving just some of the accounts? Or is it a bug?
