[SOLVED] deleting a backup file

I?ve been lurking here for years & benefitted from the expertise of several of you. When I have a question I can normally search through the group threads & find the answer. (Here it comes...) However, I am stumped on a relatively inconsequential but, to me, annoying housekeeping issue. So I?m asking you experts for assistance, if you please.

Quicken Premier 2020 R27.28 27.1.27.28 When going to Quicken Backup, I created what was meant to be a temporary file just to get up & running after a crashed hard drive replacement. Now I want to remove that file from the drop down box. Stumped. As I said, it?s simply an annoying housekeeping issue for my easily annoyed brain. Any suggestions?

Thank you.

Using Notepad (or similar), edit the file:

"C:\Users\YourWindowsUserName\AppData\Roaming\Quicken\config\QUSER.INI"

[Replace "YourWindowsUserName" with your actual Windows user name.]

In the [RecentBackupPaths] section should be lines for five backup file folders. Such as:

BackupPath5=J:\Q-Backup\ BackupPath4=H:\Q-Backup\ BackupPath3=J:\Q-Backup\ BackupPath2=H:\Q-Backup\ BackupPath1=J:\Q-Backup\

[Path5 is the oldest, Path1 is the newest]

Don't delete any of the five lines. Just replace everything to the right of the equal (=) sign with spaces, for the backup you no longer want to see.

Save the modified .ini file.

Wasn't the user asking about a specific FILE, not a directory or path? In my QUSER.INI, wouldn't it be in the section above....a partial listing:

[RecentFiles] 1=C:\Financial\Quicken Data\Andrew Data\personal 2=C:\Financial\Quicken Data\Andrew Data\wifefile 3=C:\\Financial\Quicken Data\Andrew Data\clubfile 4=C:\\Financial\Quicken Data\Andrew Data\daughterfile

John?s instructions worked perfectly. Many thanks. I would not have figured this out on my own. Much appreciated.

[Recent files] is the MRU list for the Quicken File menu dropdown of most recent .QDF files opened by Quicken. And yes, that MRU list only contains 4 files.

The MRU list for backup files contains 5 files. Initiate a Backup in Quicken and note the "Backup file:" dropdown.

I probably should have added: Quicken creates the name of the backup file, based on the name of the file being backed up.

The only consideration for the question of this discussion, is to choose the correct line in the .INI file. By blanking out the "contents" of the appropriate line, you prevent Quicken from presenting that path (including the file name that Quicken includes in that path in the Quicken Backup dialog "Backup file:" drop down.
