IRS: free efile with no income limits

Washington Post reports today that the IRS will permit free efile-ing irrespective of income level.

Wonder if the TurboTax and Taxcuts of the world will remove their extra charge for using efile?

It's not quite as good as it looks, but it's a start: The IRS eFile system for higher incomes only allows the filling in of forms, it provides no guidance or wizzards.

They already have. Both allow up to 5 eFiles at no extra charge this year.

Speaking in respect TurboTax, what 'extra' charge? All 5 editions of Turbotax have 'free' (albeit who knows what part of the cost would be lowered if they didn't put this in; I hate the word 'free' when you have to buy something else anyway, but that's a different story....) efiling.

Until IRS permits direct connection for efiling we will continue to produce paper. We are not willing to have our financial data filtered and translated through a third non-FI party.

Jeez! I led EDI (electronic data interchange) introduction at my employer back in the early 90s, and that included financial (i.e., bank info transmittal forms) that accompanied/corresponded to ACH transactions.
