MS won't publish Money 2009

Interesting information... Maybe Intuit should listen??

=========================================?Microsoft Money Plus continues to be a valuable tool for our customers; however the feedback we are hearing is that the incremental updates to the software don?t merit a new product every year. Given this, we have decided against releasing a 2009 version of Money Plus. .. We are moving off of an annual release cycle for Microsoft Money Plus (no Money 2009 version in the fall), with future release dates TBD? (to be determined)."

?In response to our retail partners? needs, consumer behavior and business efficiencies, Microsoft is focusing distribution efforts for Microsoft Money Plus software online via download and discontinuing traditional box sales of the software at retail? Microsoft Money Plus will continue to be available at retail outlets while supplies last. We have stopped shipping new product to retail outlets.? ========================================== This is from Mary Jo Foley's blog...

That is Microsoft's first step towards killing off the product.

Microsoft will now listen to see how many people complain. Not enough will. The next step will be to announce that future release dates are to be determined in the future. Ooops, Microsoft has reached that stage already.

Isn't having shrink-wrapped copies of consumer-targeted products like MS and Quicken in big-box stores part of marketing of the product? I wonder how many repeat customers are 'found' by those people wandering the software title shelves and picking up a 'checkbook balancing' product?

On the other hand, I have noticed that many stores (eg: Electronics Boutique, CompUSA) do not sell software for PCs anymore (for various reasons), and those that do (eg: Best Buy) indeed seem to have less on the shelves.

Maybe the general computer public is indeed more sophisticated that I give them credit for.

But I still like having a REAL DVD or CD in my hands along with the packaging and stuff. Makes me feel better than just paying for a downloadable executable.
