Q2008 D report question

Dec 27, 2008 2 Replies

I tried a number of different reports but have not found the right combo to do what I think is a fairly simple report.

How can I get Q to give me this type report?

Say I have a category of Gifts with a subcategory of Christmas. I put a person's name in the memo field, or if a split transaction, the individual names in the memo field. How could I generate a report on Gift:Christmas sorted by name in the memo field over a particular time span? This way I can see how much I spent for gifts by person.

I know I could use tags/class, but would like to do this as described above putting the name in the memo field.

Thus far, all I can get is a report showing a single name in that cat:subcat report. I cannot get a report listing sorted by all names in that cat:subcat.

Any suggestions?

I don't recall any version of Quicken that ever permitted sorting or subtotalling on the Memo field (Q2000 thru Q2009).

I think you need to use classes/tags or export to Excel and do the sorting/subtotalling there.

Thanks John. Guess that explains why I couldn't find a way to do it then.
