Quicken CheckFree snafu

Quicken 2004 / Mac OS 10.2.8

----------------------------

A couple of months ago Intuit stopped supporting CheckFree in Quicken 2001. Like many, I was forced to upgrade to a new version of Quicken. I went with Quicken 2004 ... only to find a major snafu.

My initial connection with CheckFree and Quicken 2004 caused a download of the past six month of electronic payments, creating 46 duplicates in my Quicken register.

CheckFree says there's no way around this.

Intuit says it's possible to connect to CheckFree without creating duplicates, but after an hour an a half of tech support, and a lot of trial and error, we are no closer to a solution.

Initially I received glib, unacceptable advice from both companies: "Simply delete the older versions of the electronic transactions." Unfortunately, doing so would destroy months of reconciliations AND it would delete the categorizations I've assigned. Plus it's a lot of needless work, and a task likely to cause errors.

Deleting the new downloaded copies doesn't resolve the matter either--if deleted, Quicken automatically downloads these transaction afresh any time you reconnect to CheckFree.

Anybody encounter this frustration with Quicken and online electronic payment services? Thought I'd ask before I call Intuit again. I was told by CheckFree that this occurs to anyone who "upgrades Quicken, restores from a backup, or creates a new datafile."

I just want open my backup account, connect with CheckFree and dismiss the download of six months of electronic payments--I've already got them in my account.

What's "Intuit"-ive about creating duplicates?
