Quicken 2004

I'm asking this question on behalf of a friend who is still using Quicken

2004 Basic. Her credit union only supports Web Connect. Her usual method of updating her Quicken file is to log into her credit union account using her browser and downloading to a QIF file.

With the sunsetting of 2004 coming in the near future, will she be able to continue to use 2004 or does she need to upgrade to 2007.

She has not been able to get 2007 using the QFX method to work yet so she is hoping that she can continue with 2004 & QIF files.

Any thoughts?

thanks, Laura

If she doesn't use Quicken to "download" (Quicken doesn't "download" qif files, it just "imports" them) *anything* (including quotes), she can continue to use Q2004.

Thanks John. that's what I was thinking.

If she choses to try again to get 2007 to work, do you have a link to basic instructions setting up an account using the QFX method? She has entered her account number & password but gets an error message saying Quicken can not verify her financial institution. Any suggestions for resolving that error? She's getting very frustrated with Quicken and about to give it up totally.

Sorry to hear that.

I don't know of any specific instructions; the newer versions of Quicken are generally supposed to setup account easily. I've never had any problems.

I know the financial institution must be in the Participating Financial Institutions list, and I know you have to use the exact correct fi name (assuming you are entering it in Quicken before setting up).

Occasionally the user-id and/password for Quicken are not the same as the ones used to logon to the fi web site independently of Quicken.

There are non-Quicken factors that can be involved; firewalls, browser settings, etc; those are unique to the user.

Also, I have no experience with Q2007, though I don't remember any special problems reported about it for just setting up accounts.

One thing you could try is to clear any fi information from the Account Attributes; then logon to the fi's website outside of Quicken; download the QFX data; and tell Windows to Open rather than Save ... which should start Quicken and ask you which account the data is for. You may need to double check that the QFX extension is set to be opened by the Quicken Launcher (qw.exe): that's in Windows Explorer > Tools > Folder Options >

File Types.

If you get one or more errors; post the error numbers here (or you can look them up yourself at the Intuit Help & Support site: select product, then enter the error number in the search text).

Thanks again. I will pass your info on to her. Hopefully we'll figure it out.
