Quicken for DOS (8) in Windows XP

I have Quicken for DOS v 8 running on a WIN XP PRO (NTFS) no problems.

Trying to rung on another WIN XP PRO machine and can not get as Full Window, also on exit screen blanks and must do a hard shutdown.

Been a while since I originally figured the solution but can't remember how.

Any Ideas?

Thanks in advance

Hi, MedRxman.

You need to get WinXP's "DOS" window itself to be Full Screen, then Quicken should run full screen within that window.

I enclose "DOS" in quotes because it's not really MS-DOS, of course. It's just a part of WinXP that looks and acts much like MS-DOS so that we old guys who were using computers before MS-DOS was written can feel comfy. The proper name for this window is the Command Prompt.

You can right-click on Command Prompt, then click Properties, and set such things as colors and fonts. I've noted that we see a different Properties box if we open the window and then right-click on the Title Bar. I'm running Vista now and the details are slightly different from WinXP.

For future reference, you should know that Vista will not run a 16-bit program, even though WinXP will. I don't recall if Quicken 8 was 16- or

32-bit, but you should check this out if you plan to run Vista. (I had to retire my beloved WordPerfect Office Library's Calendar because Vista will not run it, not even in a "DOS" window.)

Hi R.C.

Yes I can do as you suggest. However I created a shortcut (same as PIF) on a laptop with Win XP Pro (NTFS) and am able to run the program from the desktop icon and upon exiting the program, return to the Windows XP desktop. That is what I am trying to do. I once read a post on how, did it, but stupidly forgot to make notes.

Thanks

In windows explorer, navigate to the q.exe file. Right-click, then select properties. Under Program, check Close on exit. Under Screen, select Full-screen. Right-click on q.exe, and create your desktop shortcut.
