Silly question about Quicken Folder...

I have a folder entitled Quicken and somehow it has a subfolder titled Quicken. All the files are in the subfolder and the only one in the mail folder is of course titled Quicken. I would like to just have ONE main folder but how do I do that? I have deleted the sub but that does not work.... Thanks.

Your question is a windows file management question, not a Quicken question.

What is the path of the two Quicken folders? If they were created by Quicken and used by Quicken then quite possibly you do not want to change the location of the files.

If, however, they are folders you created - to store backups or such - then of course you can change them. What do you mean when you say that deleting the sub 'does not work'. Do you mean that you cannot delete the sub folder (perhaps because there are files in it?) OR are you getting an error message when you try to delete the sub? OR perhaps do you delete the sub and the program re-creates it?

More specifics, please.

Why "of course"? Of who's course is that? What is "the only one in the mail folder"? What "mail" folder? What are you talking about?!?

And what's a "main folder"? I just love how people make up things.... If you really one just one main folder then identify which folder you think is "main" and delete all the other ones.

Really? I just gotta ask: What was your first indication that it didn't work?!?

I can only assume from your ill defined problem description, that you have a Quicken folder in your C:\Program Files\Quicken folder. I have no idea what files are in there. If you don't want them then delete them. Or simply rename the folder. If everything works then that's a pretty good indication that you don't need that subfolder.

Go into the subfolder Type Ctrl+a to select all files Type Ctrl+x to "cut" the files Go back up to the parent Type Ctrl+v to paste the files you copied Delete the now empty subfolder

It looks like you may have installed the Quicken program in folder .../Quicken/Quicken when you really wanted it in .../Quicken.

If that's the case you can do the following:

(1) Save your Quicken data on CD or in a separate folder on your hard drive using Quicken's File -> Backup.

Note which folder your data is in. If it's in .../Quicken/Quicken you'll probably want to restore it to .../Quicken. Otherwise restore it to its original folder [see step (5)].

(2) Uninstall Quicken.

(3) Delete folder .../Quicken/Quicken and its contents (if any).

(4) Reinstall Quicken in folder .../Quicken (that'll probably be the default).

(5) Restore your Quicken data using Quicken's File -> Restore.

(6) Open Quicken and, if necessary, specify the new location of your Quicken data.

(7) Use Quicken's One Step Update to reapply any Quicken program updates.
