Tax Software

Looking for any ideas for the best Tax Software. I need to do 3 returns. Used Turbotax last year but am now seeing H.R. Block Tax Software a little cheaper than TurboTax. Any ideas.

taxact.com is advertising free filing for most returns, even complex.

But They charge $15 for each state return; 3 X $15 = $45.

_____________

But many states have a website where state returns can be filed at no cost.

I stopped using Turbotax several years ago when it screwed up Alternative Minimun Tax. Their support organization did not acknowledge my detailed multi page report.

I have been using TAXACT, the paid for version that runs on my computer, and have been very happy with the product. Also, their product support normally responds within hours with detailed answers

Thanks for everyone's input; guess I will go with Tax Act.

I traded Turbotax for Taxcut (now H&R At Home) about 10 years ago and have never looked back. I'm sure both are equally good and one is cheaper.

I used Taxact 2 consecutive years, but wasn't all that happy. I forgot what it was that bothered me. I have been back with TurboTax the last 3 or so years. Last year TT and I made a mistake in NJ tax, and I had to pay more to catch up. Nothing big, but I'll have to watch out this year. Tax return is fairly simple except 2 states are involved (NY & NJ).

I also switched from TurboTax to TaxCut (H&R Block At Home) about ten years ago. Various reviews put TurboTax and H&R Block At Home about par with each other feature wise, with H&H Block getting the 'easier to use' nod.

I have found H&R Block's customer support to be excellent. I cannot say the same for Intuit's support.

Intuit has support?

Well, they have some people with foreign names who respond to problems with canned non-solutions. I have a problem with one of my financial institutions in Quicken 2011 that has not been addressed by Quicken in over a month and a half. At least four time they have had me send log files. After doing that the problem gets closed with no resolution suggested and the cycle starts over. I was a happy MS Money user for years. Unfortunately MS dropped the product.

I has MS Money as well and was forced to go to Quicken. Not very excited about the support from the "script monkeys".
