TurboTax and Q08

I would have thought that any "buy one get the other free" deals would have hit the stores by now. I haven't seen any... so maybe this year will be a repeat of last year... no deals.

Hi, Speedlever.

I don't bother to watch Congress as closely as I did before I retired, but Intuit may be waiting to see if they enact any last-minute tax changes before adjourning this session.

Like, continuing the option to deduct sales taxes or state income taxes. Has that been decided yet?

Stopped by Staples tonight for something else and the Turbo Tax display setup caught my eye. Looks like the deal has come and gone, but I got lucky. They had the $20 rebate showing for Q08/D. TT/Deluxe said you get a $30 rebate when buying Q. So I ended up getting Q08D for ~$10 and tax. They had mistakenly left the $20 rebate on Q08D even though it had run out on 11/21.

Maybe there'll be some more deals before the season is over.

You could have saved even more, i.e. $10 plus tax, by NOT buying anything.

Sarcasm noted.

I take it you do your taxes by other program, manually, hire someone else, not at all?

Might I suggest you try Tax Act. Been using it for several years now with also the state module. Price I think is quite reasonable.

I am a semi-retired income tax preparer who does maybe 125-150 tax returns a year, in Canada. I use a professional product called Profile, owned by Intuit, one of whose offices is right here in Edmonton, Alberta.

Just visited the Staples website and noted that there is still a $30 rebate when you purchase Quicken and TurboTax. Says it is good until 4/15/08

On the Staples web site TT with State is $45. Quicken DLX is $60 for a total of $105. Then there is a $30 rebate for the bundle bringing the total down to $75. In past years I recall Quicken DLX being on sales for $30 which made it free after the rebate.

I am using Quicken DLX 2006 and am hesitant about shelling out $30 for the upgrade.

Unless there is some new feature (not very likely) that you MUST have, don't bother with 2008. It's buggier than 2007 and that isn't saying much!

My point is that since I was buying TT anyway, I might as well update Quicken and further my ability to continue to do web-connect or whatever it's called these days. I only had another year left on Q06 before it was going to be sunsetted.

So I'm happy that I could upgrade for ~$10 and get that extended functionality.

The installation and conversion process went without a hitch on both my Vista/64 computer and my XP.pro laptop.

Could you refresh my memory on when Q06 will be sunsetted? Is it yearend

2009? Thanks! CTinFL

Based on when they sunsetted 2004 (April 2007) my guess would be April 2009 rather than year end.
