I am using TT Deluxe desktop as I have done for many years but this year it has me stumped.
I finished my taxes but have 3 errors I cannot resolve - all concerning Form 1116 which I never needed in previous years.
a) One error shows me a form entitled "Explanation Statement 2011". Instructions say: Explanation Stm: Detailed Explanation-1 must be completed. Enter your explanation here to complete the required statement. It must show the allocatable expense items for line 2 column b.
It refers itself to Form/Line "Form 1116 (COPY 1) 2,B" Explanation of "Allocatable Expense Statement B"
I have absolutely no idea what it is talking about!
b) The next 2 errors are similar and related to 2 K-1s. They say: "Sch K-1 Partnership Additional info 1: Foreign Tax Code I Line 3b is linked to a copy of Form 1116 which has a different paid/accrued box checked. Either change the copy of Form 1116 link or select the correct foreign taxes code on this K-1 Worksheet to match the corresponding copy of the selected Form 1116. To change the type of foreign taxes paid or accrued on this K-1, enter schedule K-1 in the search field. To change the link to a different Form 1116 or a different column, enter Foreign Tax Credit" in the search field." On the form presented there is a line "Select country column for Form 1116" with 3 boxes A, B, C but no explanation which countries these boxes correspond to. B is selcted by TT but no matter which box I select the errors persist.
I am ready to give up!
