Bill pay at BoA too complicated

Mar 19, 2012 4 Replies

I find the BoA billpay scheme very opaque and I'm sorry I started it for 16 payees. Today I had to write a paper check for 3 water meter accounts so they wouldnt shut off the water, and now wish to, first of all, cancel the bill pay payment scheduled for Friday Mar. 23 just once, so as not to pay twice.I tried to cancel the payment, but absolutely could not find a way to accomplish it. I even defaulted to deleting the pay-to account, but could not do that either. I could not make my way through that melange of screens, none of whom have titles. Go to the "pay to/pay from" is so sloppy an instruction that refers only to a tag to be found on the (unknown) page, "click on Payments" where?. The telephone help is constantly a "busy" tone.I have three more days to try to resolve this. Have you any help for me? John Polasek

You may very well have a problem. If BofA was planning to send a paper check, rather than an electronic transfer, they may have already done so as of last Friday or today. That would be to make sure the paper check got to your payee in time. But you didn't say whether the payment was going to be done electronically or not. If it was going to be done electronically, I'd call BofA web services and POLITELY ask what you need to do. What is completely and utterly ridiculous to you,may very well have been second nature to the bl**ping programmer working for BofA ...

The good news is that I was finally able to delete the payee; it said "payee deleted" or words to that effect. The bad news: when I logged in later, the pay instruction was still there, just as before. I found a telephone number under "help" I think but i repeatedly was busy, so I am still under the hammer. Find another bank. Life is too short to spend time on such aggravation.

(BTW I work for a BoA affiliate and bank at Wells Fargo)

Today, Tuesday, I logged in, found my payment that they said was cancelled, was still scheduled, but found some way to delete it, only to log in again and find it's still there. This evening I phoned the indicated phone number and found the check had been sent out and there's nothing can be done about it. Now I'll have to tell the water company I paid twice and see if I can get credited. There are no clues to navigation on that website and all is fine and dandy if you want to keep sending money, but, edit? Not possible.
