upgrade recommend ?

I have 2002. See a lot of unhappy 2005 customers on this board. For simplest upgrade and retention of features, would you recommend going to 2003, 2004, or 2005 ? Thanks.

I have Q2005 Delux, US on WinXP Home. There *is* a learning curve. Because of the possibility of using bad language, no little children in the room while you work on Q for the first month or so.

And BACKUP, backup the backups, etc. I keep daily backups, so I can go back and start modifying anew.

Based on the negative comments about 2005 I decided to stick with the 2004 basic that a friend gave me. Hopefully enough unhappy 2005 users will complain to Intuit and 2006 will be an improvement.

Gee, Bill. Intuit has sold probably several million copies of Quicken

2005, and there are probably a hundred or so people on this board who complain vigorously about it. I, for one, don't have any real problems with Q 2005 (at least no more than I had with any previous version of Q I have ever used). Guess you have to decide if you will be one of the millions who don't seem to be complaining, or one of the hundreds who do complain! It is different than Q2002, so there will be a learning curve.

Quicken underwent a significant interface re-design in 2003. I think it was last year they introduced major changes on the Investment side.

There have been minor changes only in 2005. In view of the sunset policy on Quicken releases, I would always opt for the latest release unless you can get at least 1/3 reduction per year on earlier releases.

The learning curve will be no different for any of these releases

I agree with Chuck as far as the complaints go.

I'd recommend not upgrading, if possible. In addition to the frequent problems that I encounter with 2005, I find the changes to the interface extremely annoying.

For what it's worth, I had 02 basic and upgraded to premier home and business 2004 and am pretty darned happy.

I completely agree. I went from QW6 - Q04D - Q05D and much prefer Q05 over Q04 from a usability perspective. I'm trying to expand my knowledge of Q's capabilities and have set-up online reconciliation, which is working great. I'm in the process of sorting out our investments in Q so can't really comment on how that worked in previous versions.

Unless there's something specific about Q05 that kills it for you, I agree to go with the latest.

I'm using QP2005 and like it just fine. Those with problems tend to be more vocal than those who don't.

Well there isn't any option if you use it to connect to the internet in any way. I think the deadline is tomorrow so I finally looked at it & the "upgrade" is simply a $20 discount on the two cheaper versions full price. I have 2002 Home & Business which does not seem to offer any sort of discount. Unless I've missed something I'm forced to pay for completely new software.

$60, $80 & $90 for the various versions.

$40, $60

I think it was more Intuit's Sunset Policy, rather than the actual program, that had people complaining.

I know it was with me!

But there is. Q2003 and Q2004 will still connect to the internet and download just as before after April 19. My guess is that their downloading capabilities will last as long as Q2002's did.

Puhleeeze; Q2003, Q2004 and Q2005 can be had at eBay very inexpensively. And generally, the older the product, the cheaper it will be. I bought Q2004 H&B (new CD, unregistered product) on eBay last September for $23 including shipping.

I went from 2001 to 2004. The interface annoyed me so much, I went back to 2001.

and now Intuit is going to sunset allowing 2001 access to their website or where ever.

Back to paper and pencil.

This is only on avenue of complaint. I have been using Q2005 since the first of the year and just today found this news group, some people don't have access to these news groups others don't know that news groups exist. If some one would do a real survey of Q200X users you might see a very large increase in dissatisfaction among Q2005 users...... Don S

Or you might not.

Not a very interesting assumption. Why would you assume that if a lot more users posted to groups such as this, that the percentage of complainants would increase? There is already at least one very reasonable theory (unsucessfully challenged as far as I am concerned) that a group such as this tends to attract *more* people who would post negative comments than people who would post positive comments. Unless you can offer a believable alternative, I suggest that a "real survey" would likely show that the vast majority of those who use Quicken like it ... even if they do not think it is perfect.

Are you perfect? Is the company you work for perfect?
