Valuing a deferred fixed index annuity

I am 69 years old, retired for the past year, and one of my IRAs is a Corebridge Financial Power Index 5 single premium deferred fixed index annuity, linked to the S&P 500, MSCI EAFE, and the Russell 500, with an annual 9.5% cap. This 5-year contract just passed its 1-year anniversary.



I’ve been valuing the account for the past year by applying the daily price history downloaded by Quicken for the S&P 500 and Russell indices. MSCI EAFE doesn’t appear to be downloadable, so I periodically go to the Corebridge website for price updates.



Since the past year has been a good one for equities, the 9.5% cap was applied to the account, so I’ve been over-valuing it.



I’d like to adjust the account to better show the value throughout the past year. My initial idea is to delete all the daily prices and substitute (maybe monthly) prices that are 9.5% higher each month.



Any better ideas?

I know nothing about the characteristics of premium deferred fixed index annuities. But based strictly on your problem description, I can think of no other basic approach.

But how do you plan to "substitute" the new prices?

Depending on the details of your plan to get new prices into Quicken and how many prices (dates) are involved, there MAY be some alternative approaches that would require less manual effort.

It sounds like you may only be talking about a year's worth of monthly prices, for which there's probably not a better alternative than just manually entering the prices into Quicken's price history.

Appreciated. This worked fine for the first year.

Going forward, is there any way download any new prices without overwriting those from the first year? In other words, "limit" the date range of downloaded quotes?

I realize I may have the same workaround at the end of the second year.

Can you describe each step you've been taking to get the prices you want? And why that is no longer working?

Quicken can download historical prices, but Quicken's ability to select a date range of prices is limited to some past number of days, months or years. Such as: "last 5 days" or "last month" or "last year".

Typically accurate prices for securities such as yours would be downloaded by the financial institution where the security is held. I take it that's not possible for you.

It theory, there might other ways to get what you want; but I'm not sure all are possible, and even if they are, I'm not sure it's worth it for

12 prices a year.

Quicken can import security prices from a properly formatted .CSV file; you just have to find a way to get your prices into such a file.

At one time I thought that Yahoo could display historical prices and download those prices to a .CSV file; but at the moment I'm unable to recall how that was done.

When Yahoo did display historical prices, I thought that a range of those prices could be selected and exported to .CSV; but it's been years since I did anything like that, and the Yahoo site seems to have changed.

There are other places to get prices (such as Google), but I have no knowledge of the details, including their ability to export prices to a .CSV file.

Another approach which is more cumbersome than importing prices from a .CSV file, is to have Quicken download prices to a separate Quicken file used only for holding security prices, export the Quicken prices to a .QIF file, then using Notepad (or similar) delete the unwanted prices (and any other unwanted data) from the .QIF file, then import the resulting .QIF. file of prices into your regular Quicken file.

Yet another, but much more cumbersome, approach would be to have Quicken download prices to a separate Quicken file (used only for holding security prices), extract the price history data from Quicken to a .CSV file (using an unzip utility, combined with a piece of free software called "The QPH File Processor", select the desired range of prices from the resulting .CSV file created by The QPH File Processor, then import the selected prices into your regular Quicken file. The only value I see in this approach is that one result is a .CSV file of prices which can be analyzed/modified in other software such as Excel.

If you were getting your incorrect prices downloaded from your financial institution, you might be able to take advantage of a new Quicken feature.
