Viacom Splitting Into Two Companies

As of the beginning of this year, VIACOM will be splitting itself into 2 companies, New Viacom, which will retain the old stock symbols of VIA and VIA.B, and CBS Corporation, which will be assigned CBS.A and CBS. Wwner of VIA or VIA.B will receive half a share of the new VIA (or VIA.B) and CBS.A (or CBS) for each share of the old Viacom with case dispersed for incomplete shares. What is the best way to enter this transaction in one's portfolio?

I eagerly await the answer to this question. Let me add another note of confusion. According to the company site, The old company is Viacom (VIA.B), the new (?) spun-off symbol/company is VIA & VIA.B, while the surviving company is CBS (fromVIA.B) and CBS-A (from VIA). There are other symbols floating around, like RBV (for CBS Corp).

I'm really surprised that no one has responded to our pleas. Is everyone struck dumb by the question, is it just too boring, or what. Surely we are not the only ones who owned shares of the old Viacom. I don't think it's too simple to bother with, either. Viacom's description is that for each share of old Viacom, we receive 1/2 share of a new Viacom stock and that the half share left turns into CBS, Don't ask me why they do it this way, I would have expected the identities to be reversed.
