1040ES and 1040V

No 1040ES or 1040V delivered this year.

Is this a mistake or is there some new way to pay online that I'm supposed to know about?

No mistake, they're just a tad slower this year. After all, they (IRS) have a lot on their plate this year, what with getting all those letters out about the upcoming "rebate".

It's not even close to April 15th, so plenty of time in the next

31 days. Don't worry.

Actually - you ain't gonna get 'em. Per the NATP March 13 newsletter ...

Estimated Tax Payment Vouchers

Here's another opportunity for you to "stay in front of your clients" throughout the year. The IRS has discontinued mailing paper Form 1040-ES, Estimated Tax for Individuals, vouchers and envelopes to your 1040-ES clients who file electronically. 1040-ES filers who file a paper return will receive only one mailing instead of quarterly mailings. Take the place of the IRS here and remind your clients to make their payments every quarter. While you're at it, market yourself and ask if there is anything you can do for them. More information is in the Form 1040-ES instructions available on the IRS website.

A valid addition to his point is that for many elderly retirees who have routinely paid estimated taxes for years, carefree access to the Internet is not yet a reality.

Self-prep software and paid professionals can provide 1040-ES pre-filled forms, although some charge for it.

Now, if only you could download the pre-addressed envelopes too!

Mark, if you will permit one final observation ----- Any person who posts a question to misc.taxes.moderated will, in my opinion, have "carefee access to the internet", and therefore would benefit from the simple answer to "download the form"....

Yet, that was still overlooked by those here who sell tax advice for a living.....

In the words of our esteemed president.... " Duhhhhhhh ! " :>))))))

While I agree that it is a "no-brainer" for many people to download the estimated tax forms, I don't agree with your conclusion that such should have been the obvious response to the OP.

He didn't ask, "where can I get the form", he asked "is this a mistake" after observing that forms were not being delivered this year in the accustomed time frame.

Even in the previous thread, the question was "Should we be concerned? [...] Anybody know what the IRS timing on sending them out is?"

What remains unclear is whether it is a mistake, whether we should be concerned, what the timing is, or is it just a new IRS policy that has not been communicated very clearly (for example, is e-filing my 1040-ES "return" the same thing as e-filing my form 1040, as one respondent stated?). Other than a few "don't worry" replies, the question still remains unanswered at this point, except for IRS language that many would interpret to mean this: they ain't mailing out 1040-ES forms and envelopes to e-filer's any more.

(Just as with e-filing, the total cost doesn't go away, it is just shifted from one party to another).

Your preferred response to the OP, helpful as it may be, doesn't resolve this issue or address the question posed by either of the OP's.
