I just got a question, and I can't find a good answer on the irs website. From the instructions on the 1040NR it appears that two non- resident alien spouses who would ordinarily file the 1040NR cannot file jointly. To file jointly they have to elect to be taxed as resident aliens and file the 1040.
That's the impression I get, but it's not completely clear. Do I have it right?
