Assistance in filing SS4 or EIN form for Single member LLC

Hi,

I have opened a Single member LLC in Virginia by filing articles of organization and got a certfiface for the same. Now the second step is to get the EIN. I have gone through the instructions of latest SS4 form and almost filled the form also. But I have few questions in that as follow:

  1. As per the latest SS4 form (Rev July 2007), there is no need to get EIN for single member LLC (which is my case). But I do want a separate EIN so that I don't have to use my SSN at all the places. My first question is that Can I still get EIN for single member LLC ?

  1. What should I put in #1 and #2 of the form i.e #1. "Legal name of entity (or individual) for whom the EIN is being requested" ?

Should I put the name of my single member LLC which I registered with State, lets say "Alpha Beta Gamma, LLC" ? or my full name ?

#2. "Trade name of business (if different from name on line 1) " ?

Should I put anything here ?

  1. What should I put in 9(a) ?

As per instructions I should put "Disregarded entity" or "Disregarded entity - sole proprietorship" in Other(specify). What should I put for single member LLC ?

  1. What should I select in #14 ? I will not be having any employee, so there will be no employment tax liability. Should I select "Yes" here ?

  1. I will be providing IT and software development and consulting. So in #16 and #17 I will pe putting "IT Consulting". My question is : Is "IT Consulting" is fine to put here. I mean is there any catch / implication attached with word "Consulting" ?

Thanks in advance dc

Sure. For #10 check "other" and specify the business reason you need the EIN since you don't need it for federal tax purposes.

The entity name.

Nope, not unless you have a different name under which you operate. By different I mean different from the entity name.

Check "other" and write "Disregarded entity - sole proprietorhip."

Just leave it blank. Make sure you answer "N/A" for #15 and "0" for #13.

IT consulting is fine if that is what you will be doing.
