Charitable deduction if reimbursed by child

If I make charitable donations during the year (about $2000), and on 12/31 my adult child (who does not itemize deductions) reimburses me for the sum of my donations for the year, can I deduct my donations? It seems since I have the money and the donative intent at the time of each donation, the fact that someone (my child) later gives me money should not affect the deductibility of my donations.

In article you write:

Why is your child reimbursing you rather than giving you a gift?

A gift of $2000 would have no tax implications at all.
