couple social security tax

I am married and filing jointly. Both my wife and I work. I paid full $5580 Social Security Tax in 2005 which is the limit. My wife paid about $2000. I know there is a limit for Social Security Tax. Is the limit for each person or for a couple? Do we overpaid our Social Security Tax? Can I get the $2000 back? Thanks,

Each worker pays into social security up to the limit and only if any one of the workers pays more than the limit does s/he get any money back...

The limit is for each person. You did not overpay. You cannot any of the Social Security tax back. Bob Sandler
