Can a Widow Collect Deceased Husband's Social Security?

My wife told me she recently read/heard? that a widow can still, in some cases, continue to receive her deceased's social security.

My wife's parents were married for 75 years, exactly, Both retired and began collection social security about 35 years ago. Hubby Joe passed in 2014, on their 75th anniversary. at age 91. Wife Ann receives her own social security. She's 97 and lives alone in the same home for 50 years.

Is it possible for Ann to collect Joe's social security?

As this is not a tax question, I'll try an answer.

Yes, she may be able to get his amount, but not both his and hers. Also not if hers is/was higher than his to start with.

See this SSA pub for details , especially see page 6
