I have some questions about Social Security.
1) I'm divorced, my ex-husband and I were married for 14 years. During that time I was a stay-at home mom for six years, and then working for much less money than my ex-husband. I am now married to a non-American who does not work in the US. I thought I had been told that if I remarried, I lost access to my ex-husband's income in my computations, because my new husband's income would be considered (highest of either of our benefits with the new spouse). What happens if the new spouse has no income, does that still apply?2) My new husband and I are actually moving out of the US, to Australia (where he's from). The reason why my possible SS benefits matter is that there's supposed to be some sort of treaty between the US and Australia involving a transfer or credit of some sort into their superannuation system, based on my Social Security account. Does anyone know where I can get more information on this?
