End of the year payroll forms

I needed some paper forms to deal with annual payroll reporting. I got a postcard from the IRS forms warehouse that they were out of all the forms I needed.

The only time this ever happened before was during the government shutdown. I love that someone at IRS hadn't looked at the calendar to make sure sufficient quantities were printed. These things have January deadlines!

Oh man, running out of forms right before the deadline, that's a bummer. But don't worry, there are still a few options. You could try visiting a local IRS office to see if they have any forms on hand, or you can always download them from the IRS website. And if worst comes to worst and you can't get your hands on the forms before the deadline, just give the IRS a call and ask for an extension. They're usually pretty understanding and will work with you to make sure everything gets sorted out.

They showed up in early February.
