help for 1040X

Apr 09, 2012 4 Replies

Already filed 2011 in January 2012 and received refund in Feb 2012

Now, due to a bank change in reporting 1099INT, I owe an additional 50.00 or my refund should have been 50.00 less in Feb.

I can easily complete lines 1--14 on Form 1040X but where do I show that a refund was already paid to me by IRS ?

For example.

Assume (rounded numbers for simpler example) that

Original amount taxable income 65,000 and tax liability 9000 but paid 9700 so refund 700.00

Net change (column B) is 300 so 65,300 and tax liability 9050 but paid 9700 so should have been refund 650.00

I am lost on line 15 as I don't know how to show that I already received refund 700 and want to send in 50 to IRS ?

Line 17 - Overpayment shown on original return

Then finish the math thu line 21

ok, so using my example numbers

Line 06, Col A has 9000, Col B has 50 and Col C has 9050 Line 10, Col A has 9000, Col B (?) and Col C has 9050 Line 11, Col A has 9700, Col B (?) and Col C has 9700

Line 16, 9700 Line 17, 700 Line 18, 9000 Line 19 (if line 10 Col C is more than 18, enter diff) 9050-18 = 9032

Line 19 is called "Amount you owe" ? Surely it's not 9032 ?

Line 20 If line 10, Col C is less than Line 18, enter diff -- (blank)

Line 19...read again...and enter "50"

Sorry, finish math thru line 19

9050-9000P...and send em a check
