How can I convert IRA to Roth over 4 tax years, doing the actual conversions ASAP?

Dec 19, 2009 0 Replies

As part of planning for future taxes, I'd like to convert my IRA to a Roth, with the resulting taxes spread over 4 tax returns, 2009-2012. I can convert 25% this year. The problem is whether there is a way to convert the remainder in 2010 but have the conversion taxed over three years. Can this be accomplished? If not, what is the soonest I can make conversions but have them taxed as I want?

Thanks for your ingenuity.
